Frequently asked questions
FAQs
Starting counselling can bring up lots of questions – especially if this is your first experience of therapy.
This page answers some of the practical questions people often ask before beginning counselling. If you don’t find what you’re looking for, or you’d like to talk something through, you’re very welcome to get in touch.
How many sessions will I need?
There’s no set number of sessions, as everyone’s needs are different. This is something we’ll review together on an ongoing basis.
As a general guide, a minimum of six weekly sessions is often recommended to begin exploring your goals and what you’d like support with, though this can vary depending on your circumstances.
Is therapy confidential?
Confidentiality is an important part of counselling.
As a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), practice follows their ethical framework and professional code of conduct, which includes a commitment to maintaining client confidentiality. Any limits to confidentiality will be clearly explained before counselling begins.
Do you offer online sessions?
Yes – counselling sessions can take place online.
Online sessions are offered via a secure platform and should take place in a quiet, private space where you feel comfortable and able to speak openly.
Do you offer sessions in the evenings or at weekends?
Some appointments are available after school hours and on certain evenings.
At present, sessions are not offered at weekends. If you have specific availability requirements, you’re welcome to get in touch and these can be discussed.
How much do counselling sessions cost?
Sessions cost £60 for a 50-minute session.
Fees reflect professional training, insurance, ongoing professional development, registration with professional bodies, and the costs involved in offering an ethical and supportive counselling service.
What happens in the free 15-minute introductory call?
The free introductory call offers an opportunity to ask questions, share a little about what’s bringing you to counselling, and discuss what you hope to gain from therapy.
There’s no obligation to continue. If it feels right to move forward, practical details such as availability and next steps can be discussed.
